The conflict between the GOAL of doing something and the FEAR of doing it badly.

Which is the most important trait for success?

  • Intelligence

  • Experience

  • Consistency

  • Charm

  • Copywriting skills

  • A hitman that will slay your enemies so you can reach the top

Okay, excluding the last one...

Any ideas?

Consistency.

You could have any other aspect, but without consistency, they won't lead you to success.

You could be a super-genius but lack any charm.

You could have 50 years of experience but lack the intelligence to do much with it!

You could have any of these things — but without consistency, you'll never overcome the areas you lack.

And all it takes is doing something small, repeatedly.

Life is not an event but millions of small events that all come together — so the one small thing you do today matters.

Consistency compounds.

Not just internally but externally too.

Consistency creates opportunity. (tweet this)

If you write a newsletter every week for 12 months — I can guarantee that your life will be 100x different:

1. Your writing/email skills be 100x better (internal)

2. Your subscriber list will have grown 100x (external)

And as your subscriber list grows, so do your opportunities:

  • Selling ad space

  • Landing new clients

  • Growing your business

  • Meeting new business partners

  • Getting more customers

  • Becoming known as an authority.

And it all starts with that one email you send today, and the one you send next week, and the one after that and so on...

Perfectionism is the killer of consistency (tweet this)

If you're a perfectionist (guilty), you'll know the whispers of doubt it creates.

No idea feels good enough, let alone your execution.

You stop doing and start thinking.

And it's not productive thinking either — it's guilt and self-loathing all wrapped up in the guise of planning.

Here's what perfectionism actually is: The conflict between the GOAL of doing something and the FEAR of doing it badly.

So, how do you overcome it?

Change your goals.

Stop trying to do something well. Just do.

And do it repeatedly, consistently.

As your consistency adds up, you'll forget about doing it well — it will just come naturally.

The only way is up.
