One newsletter = endless possibilities
Last week, we spoke about the importance of consistency and how one small action creates a compounding effect that leads to growth and opportunities.
Let's dive into a small action you can do RIGHT NOW: writing your bloody newsletter!
If you're running a business, whether e-com, creator-led or brick & mortar, you need to write a weekly email.
You also need to write an up-to-date blog with a new piece written every week MINIMUM.
AND you need to post on Twitter and LinkedIn.
Sounds like a lot, huh?
What if I told you it doesn't have to be?
Here's a compounding effect of writing an email newsletter: you now have tonnes of content you can repurpose!
Here's my 3 step process for turning my newsletter into a content factory:
Step 1. Write the newsletter
Duh...This is the most important part.
But it's also the step that many people skip with a myriad of excuses.
The most common:
"I don't have any ideas" or "I was busy".
Both of which we now know are just an excuse for unproductive perfectionism.
Don't have any newsletter ideas? Search on Reddit in your chosen niche, look for people's problems, and write an email that solves them.
Too busy? Create a content calendar and plan your newsletters. Half the battle is figuring out what you want to say. With enough planning, this battle can easily be won.
Just write the fucker.
Step 2. Copy the content to your blog
It's up to you if you want to tweak your content to suit the blog format.
Me? I just copy & paste (minus the email personalisation).
But here's the most important part — do this BEFORE you send your newsletter.
Why?
You want to attach a link to the blog post at the top/bottom of your email so your subscribers can share the link with their friends and co-workers.
By doing this, you're not only creating an extra piece of digital content — you're also creating another bit of marketing for your newsletter!
KA-CHING!
Step 3. Repurpose for Twitter and LinkedIn
This step will require some more work as each platform has its own foibles.
For Twitter: try to break down each specific thought and turn it into a step-by-step method or a listicle. (Notice how I've written this email as a step-by-step? That's no accident...)
For LinkedIn: You can paste it as-is unless it's crazy long.
For both — make sure you write a crazy good hook to draw people in (more on that next week).
Bonus Step: Save your best stuff
Got a good response from an email?
Did a blog get you a bunch of new subscribers?
Maybe a Twitter thread blew up.
SAVE IT!
Create a collection of your content that resonates — you'll be able to curate them to create a premium product (ebook, course etc.) with your best stuff.
And there we go — one newsletter created infinite opportunities for content creation, marketing and growth.
